  JWs thoughts on Hell

  the jws don't believe hell, as in the place where evil people are tortured for eternity, exists.

  they reason that a loving god would not send his own creation to be tormented for eternity.. yet on the flipside, the jws preach that in 1914 (yeah, you all know this arguement.

  ) there was a big war in heaven, and satan and all his creatures were cast down to earth.

  The scripture in revelation where satan is thrown down to the earth highlights the writers ignorance in respect to the universe. The total of his understanding was that there were 'heavens' where the angels lived and 'earth' where humans lived. It's one argument against revelation being inspired by God because as trippy and far out as revelation is there isn't any great wisdom in there or anything an old dude in the first century couldn't have just concocted one night after eating too much cheese.

  A better destiny for satan, rather than the earth, would have been that glass prison thingy from Superman 2 that Terence Stamp and his two mates were trapped in. Just have to make sure there were no nuclear explosions in the vicinity.

  Physics Challenge! Explain "entangled particles" to me

  hey all,.

  i'm totally fascinated by the concept of entangled particles.

  as i understand it, you take a proton (or something tiny like that), split it apart, but don't observe the resulting particles.

  I got really interested in entanglement after reading a book called Entanglement by Amir Aczel. It's more of a history of how the idea developed from back in Einstein's time (he called it spooky science) to recently. It's a good read but it doesn't go too deep into the fundamental science and I was left with an understanding of what happens but no clearer of why it happens.

  One of the best websites I found was http://www.qubit.org/

  It's a dept at Oxford Uni trying to develop quantum computing. They have lots of resources listed for entanglement and quantum physics in gerneral too.

  it used to really get on my nerves.

  apart from being a punctuation faux pas to use that many !

  Haha Elsewhere, yeah that's the exact same episode of Seinfeld I used to think about too. Maybe Kramer, who told Elaine to put the !'s in, was on the writing comittee of the org.

  anasazi, if you were never a dub you have nothing to say that has any value. If you can't walk the walk, you can't talk the talk. Even if one iota of anything you write made sense your sentence structure, grammar and mis-spelling incline me to think I'm talking to a retard.

  Although you are a JW apologist I have noticed from your previous posts you haven't refuted a single criticism levelled at them. All you have done is hijack topics and make snide comments at other people's opinions.

  many of us have shared in these projects, and honestly, some of my best and worst memories of the 'friends' were had at these crazy events.

  I only ever went to one quick build, and that was only cos my cousin went and I was staying at his house at the time. We didn't really want to do any work so we said we would do health and safety / security. They let us as well even though we were only 16. I didn't even wear the hard hat, shows how much I knew about H&S. My cousin had done a short course at school I think but the sum total of his knowledge was giving a plastic dummy mouth to mouth (this is in lifesaving terms you understand, not a blow up doll or anything)

  The site was full of lasses looking for a guy with their names written on their hats in marker pen. There were some kids who came but couldn't go on site so just annoyed the neighbours by playing football in the street and kicking the ball into people's gardens and windows. Lots of the equipment was piled on the pavements so ordinary folk couldn't get passed. The guttering was put on wrong so that it drained off into the neighbours yard. Some clown decided to put all the plasterboard up and make a start on the decorating before the electrics had been put in. At one point a resident called the police... it was a bit of a shambles really.

  The society did tighten up on who could go on quick builds shortly after that. Maybe they heard about us and our botch build.

  Welcome to the Botchtower brothers! Aren't we glad for this spiritual banquet!! All these warnings and rules and far out shit, aren't we ecstatic at soaking it all up!!! The end must be really close at hand cos we've changed some prophecy around and jiggled a few dates and it turns out armaggedon will come....soon!!!! Isn't that great!!!!!!!!!!!!

  Arrrggghhh. Ok it wasn't that many but I'm sure the 1 key on the GB's keyboard was more worn out than on a normal persons.

  Maybe the dubs have different rules on the high seas like shipping has in international waters. I'd rather walk the plank than be stuck on a ship with witness singles - the pent up hormones released would be enough to asphyxiate everyone on board.

  The whole politics turning on religion thing never made any sense. It was inconceivable that every political entity on earth would turn against every religious organization for some unknown reason. It was interesting reading Leolaia's post cos according to the org. BTG has fallen and got up more times than a drunk on a cobbled street.

  Like has been said it's totally ludicrous the way the org. try to shoehorn some trippy halucinations by a geriatric old duffer 2000 years ago into modern day parallels. They'll probably change the identities of the beasts and harlot in revelation soon cos it will give them an excuse to print another book for the dubs to flog.

  what signs do you look for in determining whether someone is really telling the truth, outright lying or possibly using "theocratic strategy"??

  liars get tripped up in what they said

  There's a saying that to be a good liar you have to have a good memory.

  I think a lot of detecting if someone is lying or not is just intuition. Naturally we pick up on speech inflexions, mannerisms etc that hint to us that people are lying to us from experience we've gained through life. Most mothers are especially good at it when sussing out their kids, they're like polygraph machines with a perm.
